Mars – Resolving the conflict

A comprehensive mediation service.
Conflict can be a destructive force in any organization. Unresolved it can affect all aspects of an organization, reducing effectiveness, polarizing staff, undermining moral and ultimately hitting the bottom line whether this is measured in

profits or by service delivery. We only have to look the media on a daily basis to see striking examples of how traditional negotiating models have failed to reach a workable solution. Furthermore, the process of arbitration and litigation can be extremely expensive regardless of the outcome. Whether or not the cause of a particular problem is resolved, these methods can leave behind unhealthy resentment and ill feeling, which can often generate further issues in the future.

Although not a panacea, MEDIATION within organisations, both in the public and private sectors, is a growing phenomenon.  More and more organizations are turning to professional external mediation in order to resolve internal difficulties

between colleagues.   By acting quickly and decisively and not waiting until the lines of communication have irrevocably broken down, trained mediators can assess the issues and allow the protagonists the opportunity to identify a mutually acceptable resolution to these conflicts.

Why external mediation? Although very often the cause of the issue may be quite simple, sometimes it can be a lot

harder to identify, especially by someone too close to the problem. An external mediator is not hampered by

pre-conceptions, association with one or more of the protagonists nor has any agenda other than resolving the issue in question. The mediator’s goal is to allow all the parties concerned to feel that they have contributed to resolving the

problem and allowing them to move on.

Utilising a variety of specialist skills, trained staff use the mediation process to ensure all parties involved in a dispute are able to air their grievances and suggest ways they could be resolved. The issues are then discussed between all the parties who are encouraged to produce a workable action plan. Follow up reviews are then conducted to ensure all parties continue to work well together.
